Filing Update – 4:10 p.m.

February 18, 2008

Just spoke with the Rev. Scott Yow, who filed today for a seat on the Lee County Board of Education.

There are four seats available, and five people (including three incumbents) have filed. The election will be settled during May’s primary.

Yow, 35, is a lifelong Lee County resident and pastor of Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Lemon Springs.

Great Article

February 18, 2008

This is a great piece of baseball writing.

While my loyalties are 100 percent with Oakland, I’ve always had a soft spot for the San Diego Padres, having lived in a suburb of San Diego for five years growing up and attending probably as many games of theirs as I did the Athletics.

So Tony Gwynn and Trevor Hoffman are two of my favorite players in the game, and the article I linked is a cool look at the mentoring Hoffman did with Gwynn’s son — and how he got paid back.

Hoffman is one of the greatest closers ever, so two blown saves to end a season aren’t going to change the way he’s remembered. And while his career is coming toward it’s end, and Gwynn Sr.’s is over, the story is also a cool way to look at the beginning of what’ll likely be a good career of its own, that of Tony Gwynn Jr.

Boring Monday

February 18, 2008

As of 12:30 p.m. today, nobody had filed to run for office in Lee County. There may be more later, but I’m getting the feeling that this is going to be a pretty boring Monday, news-wise.

Which is fine, given the amount of news there was to report the last two weeks.

So for now, I leave you with some entertaining youtube videos:

Some poor slob proposes to his wife girlfriend (I am an idiot) in public and gets shot down:

My hero John Reis and the Night Marchers rock out at their second show (just eight days ago):
