Filing Update – 4 p.m.

February 21, 2008

Still off work, but I’ve heard that Republican Andre Knecht has filed for an at large seat on the Lee County Board of Commissioners. Knecht is a local chiropractor.

I’ve also heard that Amy Dalrymple filed for the Board of Commissioners. I’m not sure if Dalrymple is a Republican or a Democrat, and I don’t know whether she filed for the at large seats or the District 2 seat that Republican Harry Undy has filed to seek, but I have a little bit of experience with her due to her involvement with Parents For Parity. PFP consists of parents of Lee County High School students who have been pushing for renovations to the school’s campus in order to put the school on equal footing with Southern Lee. It seems reasonable to expect this to be her signature issue.

If I find out more today, I’ll post it here.

Filing Update – 2:20 p.m.

February 21, 2008

I’m off work today (blogging from the coffee shop), but I thought this was important enough to include here:

I got word this morning that Herb Hincks, the Republican who served two terms as chairman of the Lee County Board of Commissioners before stepping down in 2006, has filed to seek one of the at large seats available in the 2008 election cycle.

Hincks’ old seat is held right now by Democrat Jamie Kelly.

Hincks’ decision to see a seat is interesting for a lot of reasons. During a recent internal struggle within the Lee County Republican Party, Hincks emerged as a candidate for county chairman. He lost to Richard Littiken, but voiced displeasure with the way January’s local convention was run and with Littiken’s leadership. He clearly represents a different set of Republicans than Littiken does.

It’s hard to say how all that will influence the upcoming election, but it will be interesting to watch.
